The Diary of a Nobody: The cat is behaving normally again, and it’s a busy day at the VSO. Today’s Diary.
The cat was back to normal this morning…I’m still not sure if she knows how funny she looks almost completely shaved – her face is normal, and they left a tuft at the end of her tail, but that’s it – but I suspect she knows something is up…She was in a good mood this morning, happy to be back with mommy and daddy, and even resumed her usual perch on my desk before I left for the VSO.
It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life.

In 1956 – The Interstate Highway system of the United States is authorized when President Eisenhower signs the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956. Construction would begin in August in St Charles County, Missouri and the first stretch completed was west of Topeka, Kansas in November. Because it would have been too close to US Highway 50, there is not an Interstate 50, and it is a myth that one out of every five miles of Interstate must be straight to accommodate landing aircraft.
In 1941 – Joe DiMaggio of the New York Yankees has a sixth-inning double, his 42md consecutive game with a base hit, establishing a new major league record for longest consecutive game hitting streak. DiMaggio broke the record established by George Sisler of the St Louis Browns in 1922 as the Yankees defeated the Washington Senators 9-4 in the first game of a doubleheader. DiMaggio had a hit in the nightcap to extend the streak to 43 games and ultimately would hit in 56 consecutive games, a record that still stands.
In 1974 – Gordon Lightfoot is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for his only week with Sundown. The song also spent three weeks at #1 in Lightfoot’s native Canada, went to #1 in South Africa and peaked at #13 on Billboard’s country chart. Sundown was Lightfoot’s second of five Top 40 hits in America, his only #1 song, and one of his five hits on Billboard’s country chart.
