Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…
Thursday, January 23
Boy, I did not want to do anything today…After I got home from my now usual Thursday trip to the next county, that is…Before that I was a beehive of activity.
First, after the morning project work, I went to the gym and had one heck of a session…I started off with the new leg routine…I supersetted squats, with the new padded collar, and the leg extension machine and I upped the weight on the last squat set, to 35 lbs….This is hardly a bulletin tho, because my experience is you often up weights early on as you find the weights that work…35 is nothing to brag about, tho, but it is up from the 25 of last time.
Everything else was heroically strong…On shoulders, I got 80 lbs on the cable press up and had I worked out Tuesday I probably could have upped the bicep z-bar curls but I didn’t want to force anything…You will hear, from time to time, people whine about having been injured in the weight room and it does happen, but those are people who using improper weights or have incorrect form and neither factor applies to me.
I had a couple of things I wanted to do today and I got both of them done…Sparrow for US Senate sent out an Op-Ed column to assorted newspapers around the state… It says, more or less, that while there are a lot of issues this year, only two mattered: would we continue to tolerate the status quo or will we decide to make a difference and make some changes, plus other inspiring stuff about how our country will collapse if we don’t do something pretty soon.
I’ve gotten good responses from these in the past…The big city paper can never be bothered to run them, but a couple of other papers are pretty good about it, tho we’re putting it at 50/50 that the local paper, never one of my biggest boosters, can be bothered to carry it.
Of course, what Sparrow for US Senate really needs is a scandal…Really long-time readers of this crap will recall my scandal when I was on the ballot for the US Senate six years ago…Some misfits, about two weeks before the election, sent robocalls in the middle of the night that mentioned ol’ Sparrow was the only anti-war candidate on the ballot…What’s funny was my name wasn’t mentioned until the very end of the 90-second call, but I still got no small amount of feedback from voters, including some in Texas and Pennsylvania…It resulted in no small amount of publicity for the campaign, including some big city TV interviews.
The other thing I wanted to accomplish was to get Studio 2B set up to record campaign videos…There were two options for cameras: the camera I got at last summer’s VSO training in the big city and my new iPhone.
The VSO camera looked pretty nifty (it was issued to us for video conferences that are always scheduled on my off days) but it turned out to be a piece of crap, not good at all for what I needed.
The new iPhone, tho, was perfect, tho I decided I needed a tripod for it instead of velcroing it to my computer monitor…I also decided I needed some socks…So I headed out to the next county…The big news is even tho I was in the next county I didn’t stop in at the fave Mexican joint!!!…I am not making that up…It was still early and I’d had my post-workout protein shake and burger patty and wasn’t particularly hungry…Besides, it was good to give it a break and on the way back I stopped by the local market to pick up some stuff for the rest of the day.
Missions accomplished, there was really nothing else I wanted or needed to do so I did nothing…I get one day off between 60-hour work weeks and I was tired and I was in no mood to do anything more strenuous than lay on the couch and read…The cat, as has been her wont with The Wife still off in Kansas, joined me by lying on my chest but even that proved to be too much work and by 1400 I was merely killing time before it was time to go to bed.
Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 1830 Wednesday until 0300 Wednesday…8.5 hours for the night and 28.5 hours for the week…Last week at this time we were at 32.5 hours, but Monday’s lame-o 3.5 hours session between the VSO and the hotel will hold this week’s figure down.
The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
