The Diary of a Nobody/October 5

It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Thursday, October, 5
Assistant Front Desk Manager Q was there when we reported for duty tonite and he got the lowdown on why I was there instead of Chris…He had the story secondhand of course – because everyone, except me, blabs about everything here – and we joked that our first thought after realizing our error was we could just not come in, because it would’ve been no problemo to give Q the privilege of working a double shift, a line which Q didn’t think was half as funny I thought it was.

We also told Q about our investigation into how his restaurant charges every month come out to an even hundred dollars, noting his ploy of ensuring his last charge barely got him over the $100 mark and then offering a credit card to pay off the few cents required to make it an even-Steven C note…We also noted how Chris also hit the century mark on the nose last month, adding that at 19 cents over he was closer to a hundred than Q, who came in at 63 cents over, was…We said this in a significant tone, as if Chris was entitled to the glories of heaven for this, while Q would be dispatched to the fifth ring of hell…Q, and this was pretty funny, pretended like he had just accepted a challenge and that the battle with Chris to see who could come closest to $100 had been joined.

About 0100 145 came down to ask for a plunger…Crap…So to speak…This could be a pain in the arse because one, it’s gross, and two, we have no plumbing skills…Plus, we were sold out, so there was no place to put him if it came to that… Fortunately, it didn’t…We had to go tot he Maintenance office to rustle one up, but he didn’t want us to come in the room, saying he’d take care of it himself, which we were really grateful for.

Greetings from Sin City where the big news – and it’s about as huge as it gets – is that ol’ Sparrow was admitted to an  AmEx Centurion airport lounge today…I am not making that up…Recall in May we had been denied admittance because we lacked the required AmEx Platinum card and when we got home we had an invitation from AmEx to upgrade to one…Well, “never again” was our motto and today we had some time to kill before our flight to Sin City…The first visit was short, we only had time or a bite to eat at their buffet, but it was as nice as you’d expect something like that to be.

Dinner in Sin City was at Lawry’s, our all-time favorite restaurant because we’ve going there since Ma and Pa Sparrow would take us to the one in LA on their anniversary while growing up…We dined with my buddy Todd and his wife Tracey and we took an Uber over so we wouldn’t have to worry about drinking too much, which we did anyway.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log: There is no sleep to report today.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
