The Diary of a Nobody/October 12

It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Thursday, October 12
There was lite strength in the gym this morning…We’ll take it, tho, and are giving this morning’s workout satisfactory marks because regular readers of this crap know Tuesday nite’s workout was tabled after the first two warmup sets because of general weariness and tomorrow we should be back to normal.

The big news at the gym is the weight room – a temporary setup while the regular one gets its ceiling repaired – has been split into two rooms…We are not making that up…Recall last time we noted they had started to put in the wall and now it’s done…This was a modest pain in the arse – or a major pain in the arse, depending on how much whining you want to do – because to get from one side to the other now requires exiting one room and walking the width of the gym on the basketball court and cutting thru the cardio room. m

In other weight room news (WRN), even doing light weights there was still that modest discomfort in the right elbow while doing tricep cable pulldowns, so we’re not going to mess with it anymore, we are going to find a new tricep exercise…This is too bad, but the great lesson of ol’ Sparrow’s existence is that most things work out if you let them and we’re going to give a new tricep workout every opportunity to succeed, tho we haven’t decided what the new tricep workout will be yet.

We headed into town and spent some time with Rick today…He had to move from one hotel to another today – his final move before moving into his apartment on the 21st – and he needed a hand…It wasn’t that tuff because all he is keeping right now is in a dozen or so retailer shopping bags (he does have a storage unit) but to have done it himself would’ve been a pain in the keister.

We talked a bit about the new veteran center going in where the VFW used to be…The remodeling is not done yet, but Rick felt enuff’s been done and it should be open every day now and that they should hire ol’ Sparrow to be there all the time…We laffed to ourselves because Rick is dreaming here, especially because he knows the hours we are keeping – 60 hours a week, 40 of them on graveyard…Now, the vet center is on record as wanting my county veterans service office (VSO) to move there, something we are non-commital on and a decision that’s not ours anyway…We also heard, not from them, that they also want me there eight hours a day Monday thru Friday, a tad pretentious on their part because they haven’t discussed this with me at all…(And when they do, we’ll point a couple of things: 1) that Monday thru Friday work is something we don’t really want, and, 2) we’re making pretty good dough rite now…Now, you hate to say serving veterans comes down to money but we’re already the county veterans service office and have served 18 terms as a Legion commander at the post, district, and squadron, and have nothing to prove to anyone in that regard.

We were home and done for the day by 1030…Our jammies were on, the robe and slippers were making their seasonal debut, and the cat spent most of the day sitting in front of the heater…We are all set to dive in on some bonus project work when we get a text heralding the arrival of our new glasses at the post office, a day ahead of schedule.

Well, we’ve been looking for green half-glasses for a while now, so we got dressed and headed out, despite the fact Official Sparrow Bylaws (OSB) call for staying in once robe and slippers are on and a Done for the Day Declaration (DDD) has been issued…The new glasses are similar to the other green half-glass we got a couple of years ago but they’re wider and more comfortable…While we were out we also stopped by the town hall to pay the utility bill and the store to get a couple of things.

The cat was put in time-out twice today…The first was while we were eating lunch and she simply would not stop trying to eat my meal…Usually, she’ll stop after being grabbed by the scruff and set on the floor a couple of times but not today and we were obliged to put her in the bathroom…Later, while we were sleeping, she started meowing for yummies…We’ve trained her not to do this but she was insistent this time and she knows she does not get fed until we’re up for the day, so we closed the bedroom door on her.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 1730 Wednesday until 0130 Thursday…8.0 hours for the day – a bit more than usual for the Wednesday/Thursday sleep session – and 33.0 hours for the week, another solid total…We are recovering nicely from last week’s sleep deprivation imbroglio (SDI)…God bless all of you.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
