Yes, it is Read Free Sunday (RFS) at The Diary.
It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…
Saturday, July 22
The hotel was so busy tonite that Assistant Front Desk Manager Q was there with Gina when we reported for duty…My employment history is, and we’re being charitable here, “varied”, so, of course, we thought we were fired, tho our second thought was Q really wouldn’t be the one to do it, it would be AGM Brandon or maybe even Chris…Another thought was there really wasn’t a reason to fire me, but we’ve learned that sometimes that doesn’t matter.
Anyway, Q explained that when it came time for him to leave at 2200 there were still 15 arrivals and the Front Desk gods being as they can be sometimes, all 15 could very well show up five minutes after Q left, so Q stayed, tho he fled after we showed up despite the fact there were still eleven arrivals remaining…Almost interesting is the fact that while the town is hopping – we were stopped at three stop lites downtown heading in – we weren’t even close to sold out, so why the town may be busy, they aren’t staying here, with Q noting people were balking at the $279, plus tax, rate.
Of the eleven arrivals, nine ended up coming in, and there were other guests needing attention and we weren’t back from walking the hotel until 0215, over an hour later than usual…And there was a problem with one of the reward club accounts we checkout every nite because it had a balance…So we emailed Controller Candace and AGM Brandon, c/c-ing Chris because he works the two nites were not here, about it and Chris emailed right back, saying this has happened when he works and we’re to direct bill the rewards club and check it out as usual and we know nobody reading this is surprised that 1) Chris was monitoring work email at home and, 2) that he had the appropriate answer.
While setting up morning coffee service (MCS), we admitted farting to a guest, which we thing, hope, is a first…We had just let a couple rip and the odor was noticeable and nothing would be worse for a guests morale than smelling a fart at MCS, so we went to the back office to get some air freshener and we were about to spray it when a guest entered the lobby…We didn’t want to spray him, so we showed him a palm:
– Sir, if you don’t mind…I’d like to spray.
He nodded and said sure…I looked at him…He seemed nice enuff.
– You seem like a regular guy so I’ll tell you: I just farted.
To emphasize the point, we pursed our lips and nodded, and we got a nice little laff out of a potentially touchy situation.
The big news is we had the first +1 workout at the gym ina while…It was hardly a bulletin, tho…Today concluded our first normal sleep week in a month (see Sleep Log below), anchored by a wonderful day in the sack (see Sleep Log below) and we could feel it heading over: we were alert and feeling strong and there was no reason to settle for a regular workout.
We were strong everywhere: we added five pounds on each side for squats, and while we didn’t increase the weight on the leg extension/curl machine, we did get the usual weight ten times, which hadn’t been done in a while…Final sets for the other exercises were strong, too: 35 lbs for shoulder side lateral raises, 30 for bicep hammer curls, 170 on the bench press, and 85 for the cable tricep pulldowns.
It’s warm in the gym now, because they don’t turn the a/c on, and we’ve stopped wearing the usual tights and pullover and watch cap, and are just wearing a shirt and shorts and we’re getting a good sweat going and, now that all the ear wax is out of our ears, we can hear the music from the gym in the weight room like we used to.
Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 0830 Saturday until 1830 Saturday…10.0 hours for the day and 53.0 hours for the week, the first 50+ hour sleep week in weeks…It was a good rest, too, only getting up a couple of times to use the can and we still haven’t had to turn on the swamp cooler we bought last year.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
