Sure, it’s Read Free Sunday (RFS) at The Diary. Enjoy.
It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

The big news at the hotel is not only is the key system still down it is, in fact, worse off than when we left Wednesday morning…I am not making that up.
Recall the useful feature of the key system being integrated with the check-in process is down and that we have to use the desktop app to make keys, which really isn’t as big a pain in the arse as we like to make it out to be…It’s getting close tho, because now keys can only be made at the left computer station, which doesn’t affect ol’ Sparrow all that much because we don’t see anybody, but it would if you’re checking someone in at the right station.
After the Assistant Front Desk Manager told me this, we discussed the Christmas party, listening patiently while he detailed the horrors of $2 domestic beer specials instead of an open bar…He did note, however, that he made out in the raffle, winning a couple of gift cards but he strongly suspects this was screwed up and he was only supposed to win one gift card.
Before he left the AFDM told me about someone who called looking for a refund for a stay they no-showed on, adding they probably wouldn’t pester ol’ Sparrow, but we strongly suspect they did…It was about 0100 and this ditzy broad is on the other end asking for the AGM…In the Upset of the Year, he isn’t in…Then she starts really yapping…She had stayed oh, she didn’t know, last week or last month – or maybe last year – but she didn’t actually stay because the weather prevented her from making it, and while she didn’t initially notice the charge on her card now she was curious about it and she called and talked to Tammy about a refund but she had taken a message for the AGM who evidently could tell what kind of schizoid broad she was just from the message and hadn’t called her back.
She continued to prattle and more than once we told her we couldn’t help her but that was like telling the wind to go back where it came from…She bravely sidestepped me interrupting and kept yapping, tho we kept telling her we couldn’t help her…She was coming up to see her ex-husband – who’s her BFF now which we don’t understand at all – who is dying of something or other and she wants to come up this weekend to see him before he dies…We put the phone down for a few seconds to ward off the impending stroke, but we didn’t miss anything because you could still hear her even with the phone on the desk and not right next to your ear.
Look, friends, here’s a Sparrow ProTip: I can’t help you means I can’t help you; it’s not code for “fill me in on the rest of your goddamned life story” and a phone call that should’ve taken no more than a minute ended up wasting five minutes of my not-too-valuable time.
The gym was doing pretty good business tonite, with several others who were unable or unwilling to get dates also in working out…There were several chicks there, too, including one whose paperwork for admittance into the Sparrow Wheelhouse (SW) was about to be submitted when it was discovered she had hair under her arms…Good God, but all right, they’re your arms and if you don’t want to shave them, that’s your lookout…Hell, we don’t shave ours, either, but the Wheelhouse paperwork was immediate;y tossed.
It was a great workout, too…We did a regular workout, tho we upped the reps on the twists and battle ropes and the time for the bike sprints for the last set…Next time we’ll up them for the last two and so on until we have a whole new workout.
The big news is the TLC we’ve been giving to our right elbow is showing some results…Recall we’ve had some pain while benching and doing cable tricep pulldowns that even three weeks of rest didn’t cure…The sleeve, plus the cream and some ibuprofen showed their best results yet tonite…It should be noted, tho, we did the pec deck instead of the bench press, to keep wear on the elbow to a minimum…Tricep cable pulldowns were strong, tho, up to our old standard, without pain.
The new coffee maker was clutch tonite…We were in the mood for one cup of coffee after returning from the gym and thanks to the new coffee maker, that’s exactly what we got: a single, satisfying cup of joe…We got home, got the coffee going, had a protein shake and then BOOM the coffee was ready: there was no wasted time waiting for a pot to brew and no wasted coffee from not drinking all of it…It was a good purchase.
Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 0900 Saturday until 1700 Saturday…8.0 hours for the day and 50.5 hours for the week, a satisfying total…We were pretty tired when we retired in the morning and thought there would be a couple more hours there for us, but 1) we woke up feeling great: ready to head into the gym and, 2) the cat hopped up on our back and she knows when we’re ready to get up.
The big news – and I am not making this up – is we only got up to use the can once…We’re no longer getting up three or four times, but two has been the standard lately and we’ll see if this sticks.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
