It’s Read Free Sunday (RFS) at The Diary.
It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…
Saturday, September 17
Amy was buzzing around when we reported for duty…We’re sold out but a guest checked out earlier in the day so 163 was vacant and there were guys – dressed like shrubbery, because it’s that time of year – who needed a room so Amy went and cleaned it for them…God bless her because while yours truly tries to be of as much service as possible, good luck getting me to clean a room to hotel standards because these are far higher than the Level I and II “cleanings” we produce for The Shire.
Almost interesting is the fact there were fifty and twenty dollar bills in both drawers tonite…I am not making that up…There is absolutely no significance to this, of course, and both drawers were, as usual, over, but a fifty and a twenty are rare enuff in one drawer, much less two.
It was busy while we were off at veterans service officer (VSO) training, with tonite being the fifth straight sellout, pretty good business for the offseason…I’m not entirely sure what the deal was the past four nites, but there are hockey and tennis teams in-house tonite, and there were some parents in the lobby whining about the officiating in their tournament and talking about today’s games as if they were Game 7 of the Stanley Cup…They put away some beer, too, as the lobby trash can was full of hopefully-empty cans.
There’s been some rain, both while we were gone in the past day or so and tho mostly dormant, the lawn is not completely hibernating and could now use a mowing…Thing is, tho, recall we do not have the veterans service office (VSO) this week – comp time for last week’s conference – and we already gave a very leisurely week planned and we might not be in the mood to mow the lawn…Plus, more rain is conveniently scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, all days off, so even if we were motivated to do the lawn, which is highly doubtful, we might not be allowed to do it…Also, our final shipment of fertilizer, some stuff to make it look like a rainforest next spring, is due this week, which we realize has nothing at all to do with mowing the lawn, but this is the Lawn Care Segment (LCS).
34.562 MPG
This was actually from Friday’s drive home from VSO training, and reflects the drive down and the part of the drive up…And the figure, while disappointing, is hardly a bulletin because there are a lot of elevation changes and cruise control usage is curtailed, too.
The big news is The Shire’s value continues to skyrocket…I am not making that up, as a check of the realty website shows it is valued at 386K, an utterly insane figure for a small hovel, but the figures have been utterly insane for a year or so now…The most recent sale in the small town was for a home built a few years back a block behind us that’s about twice the size of our cabin that in July sold for 550K…It’s nice to know people think The Shire’s value is increasing but it really doesn’t matter because we need a place to live and the cat and I are happy there.
(By the by, the information on The Shire says it was sold last year, which is whack because The Ex and I bought it in 2014.)
Sparrow’s Sleep Log:
0930 Saturday until 1330 Saturday
1730 Saturday until 2130 Saturday
8.0 hours for the day and 46.5 hours for the week…No, we don’t know what the deal was, either…We were as tired as we usually are for Saturday morning and regular readers of this crap know we’re generally good for 10-12 hours here, but not today.
The good news, tho, is if we come back with a strong Sunday sleep session (SuSS) then BOOM, the sleep week is off to a great start, great enuff so that we could be looking at a PB sleep week…God bless all of you.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
