The Diary of a Nobody/May 21

Yes, Read Free Sunday (RFS) is a thing today.

It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Saturday, May 21
Amy addressed the coffee situation when yours truly reported for duty…Tho some have said Amy is responsible for us now offering French roast in addition to the usual light European blend, she said the change was actually GM Andy’s idea, which is not only an admirable job of shifting the blame but probably true, too, because Amy does not have authority to order wholesale changes like this to the morning coffee service (MCS) lineup; that is simply something that can only come from the executive suite.

She prattled about how the increased MCS offerings will benefit everyone from the Ukrainians to our guests, completely ignoring my point about how this is a complimentary beverage option by the hotel and not the International Coffee Festival; besides, we can’t please everyone.

The big news is – as predicted earlier this week – that the new credit card processors included a machine for the back office, so ol’ Sparrow can return to doing both the nite audit (which requires a credit card processor) and the nightly billing of departing guests sitting on his arse in the back office, as opposed to waddling all the out to the front desk to accomplish these tasks…The gadget in the back is a bit different than the ones out front, too…Because the one in the back will not be used by guests, it lacks the modern payment conveniences…It merely has a slot to slide a credit card – on the off chance we ever need to in the back office – and the number buttons are nice and big, too, which makes it easier to hit the right button the first time because one, they’re easier to see and, two, they’re easier to punch.

It was dead slow tonite, too…33 rooms in house, which is low, even for slow season and especially for a weekend…We’re not complaining, tho, because yours truly was dead tired tonite…It’s been a tuff week in the sack…Of course, leading off the sleep week with Sunday’s trip to the big city didn’t help, but recall the Tuesday sleep session (TSS) was broken up, too…In fact, yours truly was so tired we actually put our feet up for a while in the back office, until it was time to get morning coffee service (MCS) up and running.

Someone  – there are no suspects – again farted around with the creamer rack…Recall, a fourth creamer – Italian sweet creme – was added a while back and the lineup in the MCS creamer rack was half & half and French vanilla (the two most popular creamers) up front and hazelnut and Italian sweet creme in the back…Well, person or persons unknown – for reasons which may never be clear – switched French vanilla and Italian sweet creme…I am not making that up: French vanilla is now and the back while Italian sweet creme – which to my knowledge nobody gives a rats ass about – is now up front, sharing lead creamer duties with half & half.

Sigh…I know you’re pining for the old days when there was one type of coffee and only three types of creamer as much as we are.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 0930 Saturday until 2130 Saturday…12.0 hours for the day and 44.5 hours for the week, the lowest sleep week total in ages.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
