A friendly sort, she advised that the previous owner’s scouting reporting on me had included the tidbits “sleeps days” and “nice guy” and – and this was pretty funny – “invite him to your loud parties…He won’t come, but will appreciate being invited”.

History’s long march.

In 1950 – The Korean War begins when North Korean troops invade South Korea. The US, leading UN forces, entered the war three days later and while the war ended with some South Korean territorial gains, the results were otherwise inconclusive. Japan had ruled Korea from 1910-45 and after World War II the Soviets and the Americans divided the country at the 38th parallel. While combat ended with an armistice in July 1953, a peace treaty has yet to be signed and the two countries technically remain at war.

In 1926 – Bobby Jones of the US wins the British Open with a final round 74 to finish two strokes ahead of Al Watrous, also of the US, at the Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club in England. It was the first of three British Open titles for Jones and his second of 13 major titles, a figure which includes US Amateur and British Amateur titles. It was the first of eleven British Opens held at Royal Lytham and St Annes, the most recent one in 2012.

In 1966 – The Beatles are at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first of two non-consecutive weeks with Paperback Writer. The song went to #1 in seven other countries, including Great Britain and Norway, and was Billboard’s 28th biggest song of the year. It was the 18th of 34 Top 10 hits for the group and was their 12th of 20 #1 songs, a Hot 100 record that still stands. The song spent ten weeks on the Hot 100, all of them in the Top 40, including five weeks in the Top 10.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

Every man is to be respected as an absolute end in himself; and it is a crime against the dignity that belongs to him as a human being, to use him as a mere means for some external purpose.
Immanuel Kant

Answer To The Last Trivia Question
