The Diary of a Nobody/April 14

Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Tuesday, April 14
Front Desk Manager Brandon left the coffee service up all day…I reported for duty and there it was, just I had set it up…Of course, he’s the front desk manager and can do that, his power’s that total – but Brandon being Brandon he offered to put it all away before he left but I waved it off.

It’s so slow the morning Housekeeping Report was the absolute bare minimum it could be: the date and the room number of the Greyhound driver…That was it…No other late checkouts or anything, not even a pet room, though with only working people in-house that is hardly a bulletin because who takes their dogs on a business trip???…It will be relatively busy today as there are twelve arrivals, about as high as we’ve had since the lockdown began.

The big news is the Greyhound bus is gone…Recall it had been sitting in one of our truck parking spaces for a few days but it’s gone now but I neglected to ask whether it was driven away or towed.

My new globe – well, new to me, I bought it used off eBay – is finally on display in my office…Recall yesterday I reported Garrett had finished his repairs, but there was still some staining to be added…He did that yesterday and the finished product was waiting for me in the back office.

It’s quality work, way better than I could have done myself and regular readers of the crap know that goes without saying…Had I tried to do it myself it would still be a disaster in progress…It would still be sitting in the middle of the living room, disassembled with some parts scattered nearby, with my sole contribution still being staring crossly at it with my hands on my hips.

The repair is so good, In fact, you have to look pretty close to tell it’s not the original and at a normal distance you can’t tell at all…The glove is now standing against a wall, just to the right of my desk, under a living room window…Garret refused payment, so I told him if he never needed any writing done to let me know.

The Shire is still awaiting the first mowing of the year…There wasn’t any snow today, but it was barely above freezing and it’s supposed to snow Wednesday and Thursday and I told Cody to wait until the end of the week…It’s sometimes tuff to get the first mowing in and I remember we went through this when we first bought The Shire…The snow stopped but then it rained and rained and rained and the grass grew and grew and grew and we didn’t get the first mowing in until mid-May.

I had an email today from the state minor party congratulating me on earning their US Senate nomination…Recall yesterday I reported I’d won the online balloting over Raymond but it was close enuff to warrant a primary in June…So I emailed Matt, the party’s campaigns director wondering what the deal was…I try to keep tabs on what’s going on and I didn’t think it was likely the state changed the law, figuring I got the email automatically because I’d gotten the most votes…Which is what Matt said happened: it was a mass emailing that went out to everyone that won their contests.

I hate primaries, but Sparrow For US Senate doesn’t have any choice in the matter, so we’ll keep plugging away…The primary is on June 30.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log:
0930 Tuesday until 1330 Tuesday
1900 Tuesday until 2130 Tuesday

6.5 hours for the day and a measly 17.5 hours for the week, a lousy total that could not be worse if I were part of a sleep deprivation experiment.

I wasn’t particularly looking for a Split Sleep Session (SSS) today, but that’s what I got…I woke up to use the can at 1330 and couldn’t get back to sleep and after an hour of trying I gave up and got up…I didn’t put coffee on tho!!!…I had hopes of getting back to sleep and Mr Caffeine would inhibit that…I did dive in on the project work I would have done in the evening had I slept normally and when that was done I read for a bit before retiring again…I didn’t even get my walk in and I’m starting to think that I should just stay up on Tuesdays and go to bed around noon or so.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
