The Sunday Bottom 5
The very best of the very worst of the week that was.

1. GOP America, get your notebooks out, as Republican Party giving clinic in circling the wagons and grasping at straws as denial of loss to Joe Biden hits fever pitch…Claims of fraud baseless, of course, but GOP bravely not letting facts, tradition get in their way.

2 American Democracy Ignoring precedents set by Tilden, Nixon, Gore, President Trump ignoring tedious tradition of accepting Electoral College results…America now faced with choice of following History or siding with ignorant billionaire bully accustomed to getting his way.

3. Lauren DaigleTied Wendy Carlos’ all-time Billboard chart record for most weeks at #1, as single You Say at top of Hot Christian Singles chart for 110th non-consecutive week…Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters officially “mindful” this is a relatively minor Billboard chart, but remain “pretty sure” it’s still one hell of an accomplishment.

4. College FootballYou know guys, with games being postponed or cancelled left and right, it might not be a bad idea to chuck the Nick Saban Invitational playoff and play all bowl games between December 19 and January 1.

5. President Trump Fact CheckWinding down its term as 5-hole staple…Between COVID and denial over election results, America’s Liar-in-Chief in usual form this week…Click here for latest lies courtesy of Associated Press.

Today At The Site
Writing worth reading. Usually.

It’s Read Free Sunday. The Diary of a Nobody is on the house today.

The Diary of a Nobody: Sparrow has the latest MPG figure for the new ride.

I filled up this morning after the hotel and regular readers of this crap know this figure is a bit better than the last reading of 32-something a couple of weeks ago, but still well-below the halcyon days of just a few weeks ago, when we were getting over 38, and once or twice 40 MPG, regularly…I don’t whine, we’ll take the improvement.

On This Date
The long march to today.

In 1926 – The NBC radio network debuts on 24 stations throughout the US. Originally a consolidation of radio operations established by AT&T that had been sold to RCA, the first broadcast, carried by stations as far west as Kansas City, featured opera stars of the day as well as humorist Will Rogers. The network’s signature three chimes developed in the early 1930s and NBC hasn’t actually owned NBC Radio for years and the name has been licensed to iHeart Media since 2016.

In 1992 – Richard Petty ends his NASCAR racing career in the Hooters 500 in Atlanta, finishing  39th after leaving the race following a crash on the 95th lap. Petty raced in 1,184 races in his 35-year career, winning seven Daytona 500s. Petty’s last win had come in 1984 and over his career he won 200 races and seven NASCAR series championships, both records that still stand. Petty later won three races as a NASCAR car owner.

In 1980 – Kenny Rogers is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the first of six consecutive weeks with Lady. The song peaked at #12 in Great Britain and also went to #1 on Billboard’s country chart and peaked at #42 on Billboard’s soul chart, his biggest soul hit. Due to when it charted, Lady was Billboard’s third-biggest hit of 1981, it’s tenth biggest of the decade and ranked 60th on Billboard’s 60th anniversary Hot 100 in 2018. It was the first of two #1 pop hits for Rogers and his eighth of 19 #1 country songs. The song was written and produced by Lionel Richie.

The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

Great circumstances produce great actors. History is largely concerned with arranging good entrances for people.
