The Diary of a Nobody: Sparrow has the latest footwear news.

The boot covers are a great solution…They slip over your boots and keep them dry and they’re black so they go with your uniform…They’re so useful I seldom wear the regular snow boots anymore because they’re only really needed when you’re going to be standing in the snow for extended periods.

Well, yours truly forks over for quality gear, of course, and the original ones are still in good repair, but I wanted something with better traction on the ice and some research yielded they make some with cleats on the bottom (you see these on tires up here from time to time)…BOOM, love at first sight, exactly what I needed because there’s no reason to fall and break a hip in my declining years.

The long march to today.

In 1960 – Robert McNamara is named president of the Ford Motor Company, the first non-Ford to hold the position. McNamara was part of a group of ten former military officers that had been hired by Henry Ford in 1946 and introduced various changes to how Ford was managed. McNamara left Ford shortly thereafter to become secretary of defense for newly-elected president John F Kennedy.

In 1991 – Roman Anderson of the Houston Cougars becomes the first NCAA player to surpass 400 points in a career in a 23-14 over the Texas Longhorns. Anderson’s 32-yard field goal in the fourth quarter gave him 403 career points and Anderson would end his career with 423 points, a mark that has been surpassed many times and is now good for 23rd on the all-time list. Anderson would later play professionally in the Canadian Football League.

In 1974 – Bachman-Turner Overdrive is at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the only week with You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet. It was the third of six Top 40 hits for the group and remains their only #1 song. Like several #1 songs of the era, it was not intended to be released. The stuttering on the song was a joke and the song was originally only played in the studio to ensure equipment was set properly. The song also went to #1 in their native Canada and three other countries and peaked at #2 in Great Britain.
