The Diary of a Nobody: Sparrow has a canceled reservation show up at the hotel, and he helps a couple of veterans at the VSO. Today’s Diary.
…he was not happy with his claims being deferred, interpreting that to mean – the government being the government – they tore them up and scattered them to the wind…I reassured him that was hardly the case, it merely meant they hadn’t made a decision yet – you know the government – and there was no reason to panic…
It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life.

Criminals, Courtesans, and Constables: Friends, my latest novel is now available, for $3.99 until later this week when the price goes up a couple of bucks. Criminals, Courtesans, and Constables is about a nice guy who runs high-class call girls in and out of 5-star suites and throne rooms, collects ransoms and runs from the constables. Hilarity ensues. Seriously.

In 1945 – Germany’s participation in World War II officially ends when General Alfred Jodl signs the surrender document at Reims, France. Jodl was the representative of Admiral Karl Donitz, who had succeeded Adolf Hitler, who had killed himself a few days earlier. Jodl was arrested by the British on May 23, was convicted of war crimes at the Nuremberg trials and was executed in October 1946.
In 2104 – The Clinton LumberKings defeat the Burlington Bees 20-17 in 12 innings in a Class A Midwest League game. Clinton trailed 17-1 after a Burlington nine-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth, but got six runs in the sixth and five each in the eighth and ninth innings, including a game-tying grand slam home run, and won it with three runs in the 12th. It remains the biggest comeback in the history of American professional baseball.
In 1949 – Cruising Down the River by Russ Morgan and His Orchestra is at #1 on Billboard’s Best Sellers in Stores chart – a predecessor of the Hot 100 – for the seventh and final week. In March the same song by Blue Barron and His Orchestra had preceded Russ Morgan’s version at #1, marking the second and final time on a Billboard pop chart a song by one artist replaced the same song by a different artist at #1. The feat has also been duplicated on Billboard’s country and soul charts.
