In 2021 – Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is found guilty of murdering Geroge Floyd the previous my after Chauvin knelt on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds during an arrest. Chauvin was found guilty of 2nd- and 3rd-degree murder and 2nd-degree manslaughter and was sentenced 22.5 years in prison. He is serving his sentence in Texas and his earliest parole date is in 2035. 

In 2006 – Julio Franco of the New York Mets becomes the oldest person to hit a home run in a major league game in a 7-2 win over the San Diego Padres. Franco was 47 years and 240 days old when he homered in the eighth inning, breaking the record of 46 year, 357 days established by Jack Quinn of the Philadelphia A’s in 1930. The record still stands. 

In 1935 – The era of American charted music begins when Bing Crosby, with Georgie Stoll and His Orchestra’s Soon is the first #1 song on America’s first music chart, the Your Hit Parade radio show survey. Rankings on the chart were based on record and sheet music sales, radio and jukebox plays, and requests to orchestra leaders. It was the first of five #1 songs on this chart for Crosby and remains the only chart appearance anywhere for Stoll. The survey ranked 15 songs.
