Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1449 – The final antipope in the Catholic Church ends his reign when Felix V abdicates. His papacy had begun in 1440, following the 1438 election of Pope Eugene IV, and Felix was later in opposition to Nicholas V. An antipope is a leader in the Catholic Church that has the support of both church and secular leaders and the first antipope showed up in the 3rd century. Forty-one men have claimed the title, one serving twice.

In 1988 – Chris Sabo of the Cincinnati Reds tied the major league record for most assists in a game by a third baseman in an 8-1 victory over the St Louis Cardinals. Sabo, playing in his second major league game, had eleven assists, tying a mark that had been done five times previously and was matched by Kevin Young of Pittsburgh in 1995. The extra-inning record is twelve, by Bobby Byrne of Pittsburgh in a 12-inning game in 1910.

In 1962 – Sam Cooke is at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart – then known as the Hot R&B Singles chart – for the third and final consecutive week with Twistin’ the Night Away. It was the eighth of 18 Top 10 soul hits for Cooks and was his third of four #1 soul songs. The song also went #6 pop in Great Britain and peaked at #11 on Billboard’s Hot 100. The song was written by Cooke and a version by Rod Stewart hit the Hot 100 in both 1973 and 1987.
