Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1868 – President of the United States Andrew Johnson is acquitted of assorted charges by the United States Senate. Johnson had been impeached by the House of Representatives in March on eleven charges mostly stemming from violations of the Tenure of Office Act. Johnson was acquitted by one vote, was not nominated for reeelction, and was succeeded by Ulyses S. Grant the following year.

In 1918 – Walter Johnson of the Washington Senators ties the major league record for most innings pitched in a shutout in a 1-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Johnson pitched all 18 innings in the game, tying the record done three times previously, and the record still stands. Johnson gave up ten hits, walked one, struck out ten, and contributed a single during the winning rally in the bottom of the 18th.

In 1971 – Ray Price is at #1 on Billboard’s country chart – then known as the Hot Country Singles chart – for the first of three consecutive weeks with I Won’t Mention It Again. It was the sixth of eight #1 country songs for Price in a chart career that spanned from 1952-92. The song also went #1 country in Canada and peaked at #42 on the Hot 100.
