Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1850 – Millard Fillmore takes the oath of office as president of the United States one day after assuming office after the death of John Tyler. In keeping with custom, Tyler’s cabinet submitted their resignations, and Fillmore surprised everyone by accepting them. Fillmore served until his term expired in 1853, was not nominated for reelection by the Whig Party, and remains their last president.

In 1932 – Johnny Burnett of the Cleveland Indians establishes the major league record for most hits in a game in an 18-17, 18-inning  loss to the Philadelphia Athletics. Burnett had nine hits to break the record of seven established by Wilbert Robinson in 1892. Philadelphia pitcher Ed Rommel – pitching the last 17 innings – gave up 29 hits to establish a record for most hits allowed in an extra-inning game that still stands. The game was tied 15-15 at the end of nine innings.

In 2021 – BTS is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the sixth of ten non-consecutive weeks with Butter. The song went to #1 in nine other countries – including Hungary, Colombia, and their native South Korea – peaked at #3 in Great Britain and was Billboard’s 11th-biggest song of the year. The song would move in and out of the top spot three times and even dropped down to #8 before moving back up. It was the third of five #1 songs for the group.
