The Diary of a Nobody – The hotel is out of dish soap. Today’s Diary.
Some fast thinking led yours truly to conclude that hand soap could be utilized in a pinch, tho we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see if ol’ Sparrow keels over from soap poisoning to see if this was a good call or not.

History’s long march.
In 1802 – The Army Corps of Engineers is founded, when the Military Peace Establishment Act is signed by President Thomas Jefferson. The Corps’ original function was to build the US Military Academy at West Point, New York, and until the Civil War its superintendent was an engineer officer. The Corps traces its history back to the Continental Army, whose staff included a chief engineer and two assistants and today has approximately 37,000 soldiers and civilians commanded by a lieutenant general.
In 1939 – The New York Rangers and the New York Americans tie the NHL record for most goals and most points in a period in an 11-5 Rangers’ victory. The teams combined for ten goals, seven by the Rangers, to tie the mark established by the Quebec Bulldogs and Ottawa Senators in March 1920. The record is now twelve, done twice, by the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres in March 1981 and by the Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks in December 1985. The team’s record of 26 points in a period has been eclipsed many times and is now 35, held by the Oilers and Blackhawks.
Today – The Glass Animals establish a new Hot 100 record for the longest climb to #1, as Heat Waves is in its first week at the top in its 59th week on the chart. The song has fallen out of the Hot 100 once, out of the Top 40 twice, and out of the Top 10 once during its chart run, has gone to #1 in five other countries, peaked at #5 in Great Britain, and was Billboard’s 16th-biggest song of 2021. It’s the group’s first chart single.
