The Diary of a Nobody – At the veterans service office (VSO), Sparrow has a new computer. Today’s Diary.
The other fly in the ointment – and perhaps further proof, as if more was needed, that ol’ Sparrow will whine about absolutely anything – was the monitor had been standing on the old CPU and now was sitting on the desk, but ol’ Sparrow – ever the innovator – took some coffee table books celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Kuwait liberation that were lying around and put them on the desk and put the monitor of top of those.

Extra, extra, read all about it.
In 1988 – The space shuttle Discovery launches from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on the first shuttle mission since the Challenger explosion in January 1986. Although it’s primary mission was to launch and return safely, the crew launched a tracking data relay satellite, conducted a variety of experiments, and landed safely on Oct 3, after 69 orbits of Earth. It was the first US space mission where all members of the crew had made prior trips into space since Apollo 11 in 1969.
In 1928 – The Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees tie the American League for most hits in a game in a 19-10 Detroit victory. The Tigers had 27 hits and the Yankees 18 to tie the record of 45 done by the Philadelphia Athletics and the Boston Americans in 1902. Charlie Gernhinger of the Tigers had five hits and no Yankee had more than three. The all-time record is 51 by the Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs in 1922 and the extra-inning record is 58, by the Cleveland Indians and the Athletics in an 18-inning game in 1932.
In 1973 – Grand Funk, also known as Grand Funk Railroad, is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the only week with We’re an American Band. It was the tenth chart single for the group, their first of four Top 10 hits, and their first of two #1s (Locomotion; two weeks, 1974). The song was written by band member Don Brewer and was produced by Todd Rundgren and the album of the same name was in its fourth of five consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200.
Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.
Philosophy does not mean reading books about wisdom, it means training oneself in the practice of wisdom. The essence of the matter is that a man should so mold his life and conduct that his happiness shall depend as little as possible upon external things.
