The Sunday Bottom 5
A Ranking of Some Things
1. Russia/Ukraine War – Yay: Russian failure to take Kyiv a result as stunning for pesky Ukranians as it humiliating for evil Ruskies…Boo: this is just going to piss Putin off more, with SB5 pollsters “strongly suspecting” this will merely lead to more and more atrocities…
2. Jamal Khashoggi – Turkey decides to move trial of 26 accused in his death to Saudi Arabia, the country that ordered his death…Yay: the defendants are in Saudi Arabia and would never appear in Turkey for either trial or execution anyway, so who cares???…Boo: Khashoggi’s killers will get away without even the semblance of justice
3. Donald Trump – The 3-hole staple…Maybe an indictment or federal trial will show Trump is not deserving of support…But then again, maybe not…Trump’s supporters are able to disregard fact he remains a lying sexual predator who believes, among other things, that the Revolution was won by Continental Army securing British airports, ignorance almost beyond comprehension in anyone older than five.
4. MLB – Hey guys, your sport continues to die…Now, SB5 pollsters aware that sports websites nowadays nothing more than ways to hustle product, but boy, if NBC Sports has stuck baseball under the MORE tab, six spots down immediately below Dog Show, you guys got some work to do that tinkering with the bases and ghost runners won’t solve.
5. Russia/Ukraine War II – Damage not limited to Ukraine, as folks – particularly in Africa and Middle East – taking it in wallets as Ukraine accounts for between a fifth and a third of assorted world grain exports…Russia/Ukraine war first European war to be mentioned twice in same Sunday Bottom 5 since Great Northern War in 18th century.

A: Of course, it is.
The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow sets a record in the sack. Today’s Diary.
This is only a few minutes shy of exactly one-third of the week spent asleep, making this, perhaps the greatest week since creation or the first moon landing or the first time someone deep-fried cheese.

History’s long march.
In 837 – Halley’s Comet makes its closest point of approach to Earth at 3.2 million miles, observed and recorded by civilizations stretching from Europe to the Middle East to Japan. Halley’s comet has been observed since the third century BC but wasn’t established as reappearances of the same comet until Edmund Halley did so in 1705. The comet made its last Solar System visit in 1986, will reach its farthest point from the Sun – about the distance to Pluto – late next year and will return to the Solar System in 2061.
In 1982 – The Los Angeles Kings establish a new Stanley Cup playoff record for largest comeback in 6-5 overtime victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 3 of the Smythe Division semifinals at the Forum in Inglewood. The Kings overcame a 5-0 deficit to break the record of four goals done twice previously. The Kings tied the game with five seconds left in regulation on a goal by Steve Bozek and won it on a goal by Daryl Evens in overtime. The Kings would win the series in five games and History refers to the game as the Miracle on Manchester.
In 1976 – Tammy Wynette is at #1 on Billboard’s country chart – then known as the Hot Country Singles chart – for the only week with ‘Ti I Can Make It on My Own. It was the 15th of 16 #1 country songs for Wynette and her 23rd of 31 Top 10 country hits in a chart career that spanned from 1966 to 1998. The song also went #1 country in Canada and also peaked at #84 on the Hot 100. In 1979 a version by Kenny Rogers and Dottie West peaked at #3 on the country chart.
