Writing worth reading. Usually.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow reports things are back to normal at the gym. Today’s Diary.

The big news is, unlike last week, all my Friday chicks were there today: Jackie, the Friday biddies, and Madam Public Health Director…Jackie didn’t see me tho because she was immersed in her phone – hopefully bickering with her husband over some trivial matter that will needlessly explode into something bigger – but the biddies and Madam Public Health Director were their usual selves.

Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 331 BC – The fall of the Achaemenid Empire of ancient Persia begins when Alexander the Great defeats Darius III at the Battle of Gaugamela in what is now northern Iraq. Darius would escape but was later murdered and Alexander would later consolidate power. The empire was founded in 550 BC and got its name from an ancestor of the empire’s founder, Cyrus the Great. It remains one of the largest empires in history, at its peak ranging from Libya and Greece to India and from the Black Sea to the Arabian Sea.

In 1988 – Steffi Graf of West Germany becomes the only tennis player to win an Olympic gold medal and the Grand Slam in one year, defeating Gabriella Sabatini of Argentina 6-3, 6-3 in the gold medal match at the Seoul Summer Olympics. Earlier, Graf had won, in order, the Australian and French opens, Wimbledon, and the US Open, where she had also beaten Sabatini. History refers to the feat as the Golden Slam and Graff’s feat remains unmatched.

In 1983 – B.J. Thomas is at #1 on Billboard’s country chart – then known as the Hot Country Singles chart – for the only week with New Looks From an Old Lover. It was the ninth of 17 country hits for Thomas, his third of five Top 10 country hits, and his third and final #1 song. The song also went #6 country in Canada and was Billboard’s 18th-biggest country song of the year. Thomas also had five Top 10 hits and two #1s on Billboard’s Hot 100 in a chart career that lasted from 1966 to 2000.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

We are going to sing so that they will remember this for the rest of their lives. There is no other reason to do it, folks, none.

Answer To The Last Trivia Question
Knowledge is power.

The Philadelphia Phillies hold the major league record for most hits in a game with 36, in a 29-4 win over the Louisville Colonels on August 17, 1894. The modern major league record is 31, done twice.
