Shoulder and biceps were Friday strong, but we only got the 170 on the bench press up eight times – still good strength – and our first leg work in ages could not have been weaker had the workout been getting up off of a chair ten times.

In 1981 A hunger strike by Irish Republicans at Maze Prison in Northern Ireland comes to an end after seven months and ten deaths. Among the deaths was Bobby Sands, who was elected to the British Parliament during his hunger strike. Parts of Ireland have been under some sort of British rule since the Norman Invasion in the 12th century, with the Irish objecting from the start. Hunger strikes have been part of Irish life since before the 5th century
In 1993 – Cleveland Stadium hosts its final major league baseball game, a 4-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Opened in 1932, the Guardians, then the Indians, played there permanently from 1937 and the stadium also hosted the NFL’s Cleveland Rams (1936; 1939-41) and the Cleveland Browns (1946-95). The stadium hosted the World Series three times and the NFL Championship Games five times. The Indians had a 2.234-1,950 record while playing there.
In 1964 – Jim Reeves is at #1 on Billboard’s country chart – then known as the Hot Country Singles chart – for the sixth of seven consecutive weeks with I Guess I’m Crazy. It was the 33rd of 49 Top 10 singles for Reeves and his second of seven #1s, the last six of which came after his death on July 31 when a plane he was piloting crashed. The song also went #1 country in Canada and peaked at #82 on the Hot 100. In 1955 a version by Tommy Collins peaked at 13 on the C7W Best Seller chart.
