The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow is foiled in an attempt to go out to breakfast. Today’s Diary.
Today would’ve been a wonderful morning for there to be a restaurant open in the small town so ol’ Sparrow could go out to breakfast after leaving the hotel but, of course, there isn’t any place to have breakfast in the small town…Or any other meal, for that matter, unless you count the odd food trucks that are open from time to time or the pizza oven that the granary opens three or four evenings a week…We have a weed store but not a regular restaurant…Go figure…

History’s long march.
In 1841 – President of the United States William Henry Harrison dies a few days after contracting a cold and only 31 days after being inaugurated, the shortest presidential term in US history. Harrison is replaced by Vice President John Tyler, who – amid some controversy, because no president had yet died in office – takes the oath of office and moves into the White House. Tyler would not be nominated for a full term and still holds the record for the longest presidential term by someone not elected to the office.
In 1986 – Wayne Gretzky of the Edmonton Oilers establishes a new NHL record for most points in a season in a 9-3 loss to the Calgary Flames. Gretzky’s second-period goal gave him 213 points on the season and broke the record of 212 points he had tied in the first period and established in the 1981-82 season. Gretzky finished the season with 215 points, still the NHL record.
In 1964 – The Beatles become the first act to occupy the top five positions on the Hot 100, the first to replace themselves at #1 twice, and establish a since-broken record for the biggest jump to #1 as Can’t Buy Me Love is in its first of five consecutive weeks at the top. The song jumped to #1 from #27 and was followed by Twist and Shout, She Loves You, I Want to Hold Your Hand, and Please, Please Me. The Beatles remain the only act to occupy the top five positions on the Hot 100 and to replace themselves twice at #1, while now it is not uncommon for songs to jump to #1 from the 90s and even to debut at #1.
