The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow gets yet another mattress pad for the bed. Today’s Diary.

There’s a flammability warning on the package [of the new one] and while the heated mattress pad doesn’t involve an open flame, I thought it smart not to have the heating elements right next to the new pad…

The long march to today.

In 1940 – Franklin Delano Roosevelt becomes the first president of the United States to be elected to more than two terms, defeating Wendell Wilkie in the Electoral College 449-82 and winning the popular vote 54.7% to 44.7%. Following his election to a fourth term in 1944, everyone got their shorts in a knot and presidents are now limited to two terms and Roosevelt remains the only president elected to a third and fourth term.

In 1982 – The Cleveland Cavaliers lose their last of an NBA record 24 consecutive games in a 99-91 loss to the New Jersey Nets, a streak that had started on March 19 of the previous season. The Cavaliers would end the streak on Nov 10, a 132-120 overtime win against the Golden State Warriors and they would break this mark with 26 straight losses in the 2010-11 season. The record is now held by the Philadelphia 76ers, who lost 28 consecutive games between March 2015 and November 2015 and the Cavaliers would finish the 1982-83 season with a 23-59 record.

In 1977 – LTD is at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart for the first of two consecutive weeks with (Every Time I Turn Around) Back in Love Again, a song that also peaked at #2 in Canada and at #4 on the Hot 100. It was the second of three #1 soul hits for the group and remains their biggest pop hit. The lead singer was Jeffrey Osborne, who later had a successful solo career that produced eight Top 40 pop and 18 Top 40 soul hits.
