It’s Read Free Sunday at The Diary of a Nobody.
Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…
Saturday, November 14
Amy left a $303 drop in the right drawer for me to take care of at the hotel…This means she took in $303 in cash and didn’t put it in the safe…I don’t know if I would do that with anyone and it really doesn’t have anything to do with trust but everything to do with knowing that I took care of what I’m responsible for by not leaving things – like, say, $300 in cash – for others to take care of.
Altho, as a practical matter, it would be tuff to steal $300 from the drawer…There’s video coverage of the front desk and you’d have to have some pretty good sleight of hand skills to pilfer cash from the drawer.
The big news is the new knife got some work…Recall I left Wednesday morning without replacing the box of coffee in the back coffee room (BCR)…It didn’t really need it, but the risk was someone replacing it while ol’ Sparrow was off for two nights and the knife missing a chance to cut off box tops…A needless worry because it’s slow and the old box was still there with a few packets left in it…You do have to be careful not to inadvertently slit open a coffee packet here, but otherwise the evolution passed without incident.
It was so slow I only made two replacement pots of coffee for morning coffee service (MCS), leaving an empty spare pot…Usually, you make all three extra pots but with only 32 rooms rented there was no need…In the unlikely event Tammy needed the third pot, she could make one herself.
Ol’ Sparrow did the wake-up call greeting this morning and he switched it up a bit…It sounds really, really, cool – or at least I think it does – to save the ‘good morning’ until a couple of seconds into the greeting…For example “This is Sparrow with your wake up call, good morning, it’s Saturday, November 14″ sounds better than “Good morning this is Sparrow with your wake up call for Saturday, November 14…”
(You then give a brief weather forecast.)…So I did it the first way as if yours truly were reading a breaking news bulletin instead of informing someone it’s time to get their day started and it came out really good: commanding but not dominating…We’ll see if any guests comment on it.
34.223 MPG.
I filled up this morning after the hotel and regular readers of this crap know this figure is a bit better than the last reading of 32-something a couple of weeks ago, but still well-below the halcyon days of just a few weeks ago, when we were getting over 38, and once or twice 40 MPG, regularly…I don’t whine, we’ll take the improvement.
The big news in the gym is not one, but two exercises had their weights upped tonight…I am not making that up…Regular readers of this crap know the plan was to up the bench press on the last set from 180 to 190 but yours truly was feeling frisky tonight and because no one was there to say no upped the leg extension machine a plate, too…The numbers have long since faded, but it was upped ten pounds and in the Upset of the Year it was moved ten times, which means it probably could have been upped earlier.
The 190 bench press set was moved eight times, which is what you’re looking for on a freshly upped weight…I might have been able to get nine – or I might not have been able to get nine – but there’s no reason to force matters in this situation.
Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 0900 Saturday until 1630 Saturday…7.5 hours for the day and 45.5 hours for the week.
The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
