GREETINGS FROM THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF AMERIKA: The idiocy of Donald Trump’s dictatorship continues. We don’t expect it to end in the next four years and neither should you. We are being run off the top of Trump’s head, bad because he believes the moon is part of Mars and that Colorado borders Mexico and deserves a border fence.

Stop The Presses: Not that this is a bulletin or anything, but his minions are no brighter, with this week’s revelation that Defense Secretary Hegseth sent out secret military battle plans via an unsecured messaging app.

Fly In The Ointment: This breech is stupid, unforgivable, and if it had happened in any other administration, unbelievable. Of course, Trump has never taken responsibility for anything in his life, and his administration is busy transferring blame for this when it should be accepting resignations.

Dry, Technical Matter: We’re tolerating this. Congress, the media, you and me, we the people, are tolerating this idiocy.

We The People: Congress merely stands by shaking their handkerchiefs and cooing. The media, since 2015, has never called Trump what he is: a lying, ignorant blatherskite who has no plan for anything except drawing attention to himself. Instead of vetting him, they legitimized him and ushered him straight into the primaries, the nominations, and the White House. Twice.

We The People II: The only real question right now is whether or not Trump will try to shut down the 2026 midterm elections and, if he does, if we will let him. We’ve allowed him to whatever he wants so far – fire competent generals, bully colleges, align with the Russians – we may very well shrug, say the hell with it, America had a nice run, and allow it.

We The People III: This is what America – a country that put men on the moon and used to mean something to others – is reduced to because America no longer means anything to Americans anymore. We are well-fed and well-entertained, and we’re content with that. As long as the food and the entertainment keep coming, we’re happy.

The Bottom Line: We have no one to blame, of course, because we elected this nonsense. We willingly elected – again – a man of zero moral or intellectual substance. A hundred years from now, all new people will look back and wonder what in the hell we were thinking. We knew Trump as a witless man-child bully, and we elected him anyway.

There were some moderately funny lines on the tour, and the Classic Sparrow Pause (CSP) was used twice within a few minutes…I am not making that up…

Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1866 – The Civil Rights Act of 1866 is vetoed by President Andrew Johnson. The House and Senate would override this veto in April, allowing the bill to become law. The act defined US citizenship and affirmed that all citizens, including recently freed slaves, were equally protected under the law. The act was undermined by various groups, including the KKK, and did not immediately have the desired effect.

In 1939 – The Oregon Webfoots – now the Ducks – win the first NCAA men’s basketball championship, defeating Ohio State 46-33 at Northwestern University north of Chicago. It remains the only championship for Oregon and was the first of four runner-up finishes for the Buckeyes, to go with one title. The NIT tournament – then in its second year – saw Long Island defeat New York University 44-32.

In 1971 – Marvin Gaye is at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart – then known as the Best Selling Soul Singles chart – for the first of five consecutive weeks with What’s Going On. The song also peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 and was Billboard’s #2 soul song of the year and their 21st-biggest pop song. A version by Cyndi Lauper peaked at #12 on the Hot 100 in 1987. The song featured appearances by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and two members of the Detroit Lions, who contributed to the vocal track. It was the seventh of 13 #1 soul songs for Gaye.
