Backstairs at the Monte Carlo/September 10

September 10
Here was your Henry lineup for last night:

Henry 1 – Old Man Pilcher
Henry 2 – moi
Henry 3 – Jose
Henry 4 – X-Ray

So last night we’re winding matters down in the 12th-floor maid’s room when Jose and I are sent to 23 because someone had actually removed the window to his room. Bi-Bob, manning Eddie-2, spotted it; usually, when someone tries to reckon a room number from outside they get it wrong and we end up waking people up who shouldn’t have been bothered, but Bi-Bob is a very good officer and got it right.

Jose and I get there and knock and get no answer and Junior rings the room from dispatch and there’s no answer there, either, so we make entry and there’s this guy in his late 20’s lying on the bed sleeping it off. I go to the open window and look out and see Bi-Bob and D-Dawg at the employee entrance. I wave like the pope to show them we made it to the right room.

The guy on the bed in jeans and a t-shirt, and there’s some empty beer bottles and a half-full bottle of something or another on the nightstand. It was a gorgeous night out and not completely surprising someone would want some fresh air to accent his night’s rest, though Jose and I mention that he must’ve been pretty committed to a fresh air policy to have removed the window while drunk. We tell dispatch to get engineering up here to put the window back in. X-Ray and Kaminski, day shift’s Henry 1, also join us. There is no reason for all four Henry units to be here, but X-Ray had returned to the hotel from returning our scanners and Kaminski was just starting his day and both had to be somewhere.

Then the guy wakes up and he’s mildly pissed. We explain to him why we’re there. He understands why the hotel would want the windows closed, but he states he does construction and he’s hungover enough to be angry that one of us wasn’t ‘man enough’ to put the window in ourselves. I told him we don’t expect engineers to break up fights and we don’t install windows

Which was true. Jose and we probably could’ve figured it out ourselves, but what if we’d’ve dropped it? It would’ve fallen on the casino roof and there would’ve been trouble. An engineer drops a window on the casino roof there’s going to be trouble, too, but probably less because the engineer was supposed to be handling the window in the first place. The guy seemed to see our point, went and poured himself a drink, and sat and chatted with us until engineering came and put the window back in.

Here is your Henry lineup for tonight:

Henry 1 – OMP
Henry 2 – moi
Henry 3 – D-Dawg
Henry 4 – Eric the Twerp

Twerp reported he is thinking about quitting his full-time job at Target. He doesn’t like it much and is getting tired of working 80 hours a week and he said he is wondering if his kid really needs food anyway.
