The Diary of a Nobody: It’s a busy day at The Shire with Sparrow, among other things, cleaning house and mowing the lawn. Plus the robins have hatched. Today’s Diary.
Then I went to the retailer, where I completely lost my mind and bought some healthy stuff, like carrots and green stuff for juicing and more kombucha, because I’ve been out of the habit for a couple of weeks..I’ve been eating like a pig lately and my walks have been less frequent and I am not happy with myself…I celebrated my new healthy lifestyle by having lunch at the Mexican joint.
Backstairs at the Monte Carlo: Gaylon and Jose walk in on a couple getting busy.
“Jose, they’re doing it,” I said as I exited the room, rubbing my forehead as if I had one of those tension headaches you used to see in a TV commercial years ago.
“Really!” Jose said, not without a high level of enthusiasm. Not under the same moral restraints as me, he barges in and, after taking a thorough amount of time to assess – as a security professional, of course – the situation, breaks up the party and informs the couple they have to turn their music down.

History’s long march to today.
In 1963 – Medgar Evers, a civil right activist, is murdered, shot to death after getting out of his car outside his home in Jackson, Mississippi. Byron de la Beckwith was arrested for the murder later in the month, was tried twice in 1964 with both trials resulting in deadlocked juries. He was convicted of Evers’ murder in 1994, sentenced to life in prison and died in prison in 2001. A veteran of the United States Army who served in World War II, Evers is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
In 1880 – Lee Richmond of the Worcester National League team – they did not have a regular nickname – pitches the first perfect game in major league history, a 1-0 win over the Cleveland Blues. Richmond was in his second major league season and as was the custom of the era, started most of his team’s games, finishing the year with a 32-32 record. His career record was 75-100 and he batted .257 in his six seasons in which he also played 90 games in the outfield. To date, there have been 23 perfect games in the major leagues. No one has thrown two, though Ron Hassey has caught two and Ted Barrett has been the plate umpire for two.
In 1971 – The Honey Cone is at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the only week with Want Ads. The song was also in its second of three non-consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart and was Billboard’s 13th biggest song of the year. It was the third chart single for the group, their first Top 40 hit and remains their only Top 10 and #1 song. The group’s follow-up single, Stick-Up, also went to #1 on the soul chart and peaked at #11 on the Hot 100.
