And here we go:
Hail And Farewell
Friends, it is with mixed emotions that we announce immediate hiatus of The Sunday Bottom Ten. We enjoyed writing it immensely, however, the time has come to stop writing it, perhaps for a short while, perhaps for a long while.
We’re sad because it was a good column, more or less what you expect here: something funny and thoughtful, something that makes you laugh and makes you think.
On the other hand, good riddance because the past couple of weeks it had become, frankly, a chore to write. We are producing three columns a day here, not to mention other projects and we are running for Congress and the inspiration for The Sunday Bottom Ten began to fade. It is best to listen to your heart in these matters because to ignore it means we are no longer writing, we are merely typing and you, me and The Sunday Bottom Ten all deserve better than that.
I hope you enjoyed it. There were certainly some funny moments.
Today At The Site
Sparrow sees a couple of things at Hotel A that were new, even for him, including a girl in a bathrobe presenting herself in his lobby, looking for a room on today’s edition of The Diary of a Nobody. Also, it is very slow at the retailer, though the older gentleman they see everyday stops by trying to return a prenatal supplement the retailer doesn’t carry.
This will surprise regular readers of this crap, but Gore Vidal has The Thought for the Day. Today, it’s a quote from Lincoln concerning time and moving with some haste towards our goals.
On This Date
In 1851 – Isaac Singer receives US patent #8294, for improvements to the sewing machine. Singer’s was far from the first sewing machine patent, but it was the first that was practical for home use and led to the formation of the Singer Sewing Machine Company in 1856.
In 1964 – South Africa is barred from competing in the Olympic Games because of their white minority government’s policy of institutionalized racial segregation. South Africa would not return the Olympics until the 1992 Barcelona Summer Games.
In 1978 – The Commodores reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time when Three Times A Lady reaches the top for the first of two weeks. The song also went to #1 in Britain, Canada and Ireland. Though their original members have left, the Commodores still tour and last hit the Top 40 in 1985, when Nightshift went to #3
