Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…
Friday, May 4
Damn, this was almost like a real weekend…Recall I knocked off the retailer at 5pm Wednesday and I don’t have to work a hotel on Wednesday or Thursday night and I didn’t have the retailer until 6pm Friday night, so that was 49 hours off, the first stretch of that length where I didn’t have work or a convention to go to in a very long time.
I put it to good use…The big news is my book, We The People is live online…I am not making that up…It took long enough…We are not broke, but I could not afford to hire this out, so everything from formatting an ebook to getting it online and finding an easy way to charge for it I was obliged to teach myself…I’m not an idiot but boy, there was a lot of trial and error involved in this.
I had everything done by mid-afternoon, too, with a couple-three hours to kill before leaving for the retailer…I did the dishes for the first time in three weeks…Recall The Wife is wrapping up her house-sitting duties and while she’s been gone I’ve been eating a lot of sandwiches and what dishes were needed were taken from the sink, used, rinsed off and put back in the sink…Then I folded the laundry that was on the kitchen table and the couch…Some of the folded laundry actually remained on the kitchen table, but I can easily throw that on the chair in the bedroom tomorrow.
That didn’t take that long and there was still plenty of time to lay down, open the blinds and windows and do some reading while enjoying a gorgeous spring day…I suppose I could have done the lawn, but I was in an official Leisure Mode and couldn’t be bothered…I wasn’t in Full Leisure Mode, where I actually fall asleep, but either way, the lawn wasn’t getting done today.
It’s steady as she goes with the robin’s nest…After verifying the eggs were laid – four of them! – you don’t want to keep pestering them, you want them to have a pleasant experience at The Shire and to that end, we are still keeping the porch light off and we continue to use the front door, the only time during the year when the front door gets regular use.
Had something rare, and almost interesting, happen at the retailer tonight: this gentleman had a purchase where the change given was more than the purchase itself!!!…I am not making that up!!!…He bought a processed photo he had done at the photo center…It cost 41 cents, he gave me a dollar and I gave him 59 cents change.
I ate pretty well today…Recall I want to trim down a little to make sure my Navy dress blues fit extra good for the Post’s Memorial Day ceremony…It’s my last one as commander, because recall I am not running for a fourth term…I had some scrambled eggs for breakfast and key here is I didn’t make a sandwich or two out of them…I usually, do saved the calories from the bread and the ton of mayo I generally use…I had some turkey that had been laying around the frig and some peanut butter, again not making a sandwich out of it…The Wife brought me some sushi at the retailer, too…I may not seem like a sushi guy, but some of it is pretty good…Some of it is pretty gross, too, but The Wife knows what I like.
The Wife was at the retailer so we could swap cars…I am taking her car to our small town’s shop to get her summer tires put on…They’ll do it while I sleep, I’ll pay for it in the morning cause they’ll be closed when I wake up, then I’ll waddle down to pick it up in the afternoon.
Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 1:30am Friday morning until 7:30am Friday morning…I think this is the same entry from Thursday…I get confused sometimes.
The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
The Diary of a Nobody was inspired by the 19th century British novel of the same name.
