Yay for Read Free Sunday (RFS) at The Diary.
It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…
Saturday, August 26
Gina announced that the printers weren’t working properly at the front desk, specifying that they weren’t printing directly from The System, you had to Preview them first…(Later, Preview didn’t always work, obliging us to hit File and then print from that.)…This is a moderate pain in the arse, but nothing we can’t work around and, in finest Sparrow tradition, deferred looking into the matter until later in the shift, tho it is something we would be expected to look into and not leave for day shift.
So we waited until after mid-shift project work (MSPW) was done and called System Tech Support (STS) and the problem was worldwide because the first thing the recording said was if you’re having trouble printing from The System go do this and that…So we did that and this and it turned out that some software needed to be uninstalled and then reinstalled…We tried that and it turned out we needed administrator credentials (AC) and that we didn’t have, so the matter ended up being referred to day shift for final resolution anyway.
About 0030 165 called looking for a comforter…We disapprove of guests calling for things, but it would allow us to get our hotel walk in, so we headed off in good spirits…As we enter the 127-147 wing we see a guy walking ahead of us and he didn’t seem altogether clear about where he was going…We didn’t get too worked up about it, tho, figuring it was a drunk looking for his room and he turns left into the 149-267 wing while we enter the laundry room.
Well, we come out and head down toward 165 and he’s walking aimlessly toward the fitness center and then he turns around and heads to the stairs and heads up…We’re heading that way anyway to finish our hotel walk and we seem again upstairs, heading down the 267-147 wing and now we’re starting to wonder whether or not he’s a guest of the hotel, ‘cause if he’s not he has to go…Now, you don’t want to yell to get a guest’s attention and as a general rule, if you can’t greet them at a normal volume you don’t say anything, however you don’t want him thinking he’s being followed – because what if he’s not drunk and he’s a psycho looking to take out a nite auditor??? – so we say “good evening” at a volume that hopefully didn’t wake anybody up…We asked if we could be of service and he said no and pulled out a key packet, and announced he was heading to 243 which by his reckoning – based on the room numbers getting smaller – should be “right over there”….
We heard from Julie today, first a text asking if we’ve seen the Barbie movie and then she favored us with a phone call…We’ve known Julie for years and longtime readers of this crap know she only calls when she’s drunk and we had just gotten back from the gym, so plainly she had obtained an early start on the evening’s revels…She appears to have taken back up with Matt because you could hear him in the background wondering who the hell she was talking to and he wasn’t pleased when he was told it was a guy and to hush…This, despite the fact Matt knows Julie and I aren’t dating, have never dated and neither talk nor see each other all that much.
Workout was strong…There were some people there, but they were all either shooting baskets or playing volleyball and ol’ Sparrow had the weight room to himself.
Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 0830 Saturday until 1730 Saturday…9.0 hours for the day – a bit less than we were looking for, frankly, but still a solid finale – and 54.0 hours for the week, a fabulous total.
We woke up at 1630 feeling pretty good and while a patented Sparrow Roll Over (SRO) wasn’t executed, we did lie there for two hours…We recall dreaming, so some of that time was spent asleep, so we feel comfortable tacking the extra hour onto our total.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
