The Diary of a Nobody/November 12

Cheapskates rejoice! It’s Read Free Sunday (RFS) at the Diary.

It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Saturday, November 12
The winter coat made its seasonal debut tonite…It was 12 degrees when we left for the hotel and it’s only going to get colder the rest of the week, too, with the first highs below freezing coming up, tho the first below-zero temps aren’t on the horizon yet…Based on past winters here, tho, they are probably on the way.

It was cold at the hotel, too…Well, chilly…We turned up the heat at the New Front Desk Area (NFDA) because we didn’t have any meat to store and the back office was so chilly we requisitioned the portable heater that – for reasons that still are not clear – someone had set up in the ladies restroom.

The big news is that the hotel being sold finally made the paper…Talk about your breaking news…We had found out a month or so ago and shortly thereafter ol’ Sparrow anonymously sent a news tip to the paper and evidently they are overflowing with hot news tips because they are just now getting around to it…It wasn’t much of a story, either…They had the usual Pablum quotes you’d expect in stories like this, but they did not have the name of the buyer or the purchase price, tho they did break the news that the new owners are going to be shuttering the restaurant and it has yet to be announced what they are going to do with the space…The other restaurants in the chain are always looking for help, so the laid-off employees should be able to find something if they want to remain with the company, but maybe not all of them will.

Officially, there was “good” strength in the gym tonite, but we weren’t quite as strong as Friday morning…Now, make no mistake, ol’ Sparrow was strong and moved the same weight, but there was a subtle decrease…For example, recall we moved the squat machine (60 lbs) and the bench press (180 lbs) eleven times on the final set Saturday, but tonite we only moved them ten times…The other weights were moved ten times on the final set like they were Saturday, but the final set was a tad more difficult.

We’re not complaining about any of this…Ten reps being failure on the final set is the workout. So we were strong tonite and it was a satisfactory nite in the gym

Proving that life works out if you let it, we were up just in the nick of the time to make it into the gym (see Sleep Log below)…We were delayed a tad because while we put the workout gear in the dryer this morning, we’d neglected to actually close the door and turn the dryer on, but it was all dri-fit stuff and dried in a few minutes and the delay was hardly noticed.

Post-workout nutrition was pretty good, considering we didn’t have any chicken or ground beef cooked up and ready to bring it…We went to the grocery store and found some meatballs that had a bit more fat than you’re looking for, but half a bag had 800 calories, about what you’re looking for after a good weight session…But then we went to the retailer for some things and found precooked beef strips that had a loss let fat and while these only had 500 calories for the entire bag, we decided these would be better.

The big news is Spinach Crisis ‘22 (SC22) is in progress because the retailer was out of frozen spinach, just like the retailer in the next county was on Thursday…And we’re down to our last sack, too…So we took the last six sacks of frozen peas they had and we’ll go back to the grocery store because they have frozen spinach, too, and see if the SC22 is affecting them as well.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 1000 Saturday until 1800 Saturday…8.0 hours for the day and 55.0 hours for the week, both marvelous totals, and regular readers of this crap know that 55.0 hours is only 3.0 hours off our PB for a week.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
