The Diary of a Nobody – At the hotel, Sparrow spends no small amount of time on the phone with tech support. Today’s Diary.
I answer it and it’s the gal from [Tech Support] wondering if I’ve got the proper credentials yet…God bless this woman…I do, indeed…I give her the front desk cell number and she calls me on that and we scoot back to the back office server room, log in again under GM Andy’s username and BOOM she is on it and the matter is resolved in a few minutes, only three hours after it first appeared.

In 1973 – The Sydney Opera House – one of the planet’s more distinctive buildings – opens following ceremonies presided over by Queen Elizabeth II. The facility consists of five indoor venues and one outdoor facility, is 600 feet long and 394 feet wide at its widest point, and is as tall as a 22-story building. Construction had begun in 1958 and the opera house was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
In 1968 – The US women’s 4 x 100 meter relay team wins the gold medal and establishes a new world record at the Mexico City Summer Olympics. Margaret Bailes, Barbara Ferrell, Mildrette Netter, and Wyomia Tyus ran it in 42.88 seconds, to break the record of 43.4 seconds they had established – along with the Dutch – in the semifinals the day before and the record is now 40.82 seconds done by the US in 2012. Cuba and the Soviet Union won the silver and bronze medals
In 1990 – James Ingram is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the only week with I Don’t Have the Heart. It was the eighth and final Top 40 hit for Ingram, his third Top 10 hit, and his second and final #1 song (Baby Come to Me, with Patti Austin, two weeks, 1983). The song also peaked at #53 on Billboard’s soul chart and spent 26 weeks on the Hot 100, including 15 weeks in the Top 40 and seven weeks in the Top 10. Ingram died in 2019 at age 66.
