Writing worth reading. Usually.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow fields a noise complaint on a vacant room producing no noise. Today’s Diary.

…you might think a noise complaint on an empty, otherwise quiet room might be another Sparrow Front Desk First (SFDF) but no, this actually happens from time to time.

The Bottom Ten/NCAA Week 3 – It’s New Mexico State, UMess, and Colorado State on the Bottom Ten medal stand this week, as the fight for the ESPN Cup rolls on. The Bottom Ten is free this week.

If Minutemen can pull out loss to lower level team this week, it should be clear sailing until 10/29 showdown with #1 New Mexico State.

Rams new to B-10, with coaching staff still reviewing B-10 onboarding packet, with B-10 staffers already fielding questions about small-bills-only initiation fee to be delivered in stadium parking lot at midnite.

B-10 pollsters, fan(s), hoisting mug of grog in honor of return of Bulls, who gave Duke all they could handle for B-10 Team of the Decade honors for the Double Aughts…

Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1501 – Michelangelo begins work on the statue that would become David in Florence, Italy. Work on the statue had begun 40 years earlier by Agostino di Duccio, but ended after only a rough form of the feet, legs, and torso had been started. The work was completed in 1504, and was originally scheduled to be placed on the roof of the Florence Cathedral but ended up being placed outside of City Hall. It is now inside the Gallery of the Academy of Florence and stands 17 feet tall and weighs a bit more than six tons.

In 2010 – Rafael Nadal of Spain wins the US Open, defeating Novak Djokovic 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in New York City. It was the first of four US Open titles for Nadal, his ninth of a men’s record 22 Grand Slam titles, and Nadal became the first person to win Wimbledon, the French Open, and the US Open in the same year since Rod Laver in 1969. It was the second of six losses in a US Open final for Djokovic, who has also won the tournament three times. Nadal’s loss in the second set of the final was the only set he lost in the tournament.

In 1980 – Jackson Browne is at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart for the only week with Hold Out. It was the sixth chart album for Browne, his third of four Top 10 albums, and remains his only #1. The album produced three singles, including the Top 40 hits Boulevard and That Girl Could Sing. Previously, Brown had been a member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and had success as a songwriter before releasing his self-titled debut album in 1972.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

To survive? What is that? A mouse lives, a fly lives; one lives in terror, another lives in filth. They exist, they are, but do they live?
