The Sunday Bottom 5
A ranking of some things.
1. Queen Elizabeth II – Say what you want about inherited wealth and privilege, but her life offered full measures of grace, dignity, and reserve – traits most profess to admire but few emulate…Managed to turn a life she had no control over into something her subjects needed.
2. King Charles III – Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters “strongly suspect” rookie King will seamlessly transition from life of opening hospital wings, living in a palace, and having his every need attended to to his new life of opening hospital wings, living in a palace, and having his every need attended to.
3. USA! USA! – The current 3-hole staple…With 75 percent of kids no longer qualified to join the Army and citizens still earning marksmanship ribbons at record pace America – land of the well-fed and home of the well-entertained – still far closer to the oblivion that awaits her than the prosperity she once knew.
4. 9/11 Anniversary – You know, 21 years ago we recall thinking that the Twin Towers would’ve still been standing if America had given other nations the dignity of conducting their affairs without the benefit of US interference…Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters still think that…Our violent planet is due, in no small part, to a violent American.
5. Baseball Rule Changes – You know guys, banning infielders shifting means 1) teams can’t do their best do win games, and, 2) doesn’t address the problem of why they shift in the first place: because batters are swinging for the fences and are unwilling to hit to the opposite field…Your game is mirroring our country and slowly dying.

The Diary of a Nobody – There’s another bear sighting at the hotel. Today’s Diary.
I don’t really think bears know the power they wield over us…If they did, they’d stop hibernating over the winter and take over because everyone craps their pants anytime they’re in sight even tho bear maulings are very rare.

Extra, extra, read all about it.
In 1708 – King Charles the XII of Sweden declines to press on to Moscow in the Great Northern War with Russia, led by Tsar Peter the Great. Charles made the decision about 200 miles southwest of Moscow due to a harsh winter and a lack of reinforcements and provisions. The Great Northern War would be decided the following spring when Russia won the Battle of Poltava, a loss that marked the end of Sweden as a world power, though the war didn’t actually end until 1721.
In 1918 – The Boston Red Sox win the World Series, defeating the Chicago Cubs 2-1 in Game 6 at Fenway Park in Boston to win the series 4 games to 2. It was the fifth of nine World Series titles for the Red Sox and the third of eight World Series losses for the Cubs. The Red Sox scored only nine runs in the series, the fewest ever by a World Series champion, and the series remains one of three that did not have a home run (1906, 1907). It was the last time the two teams met until a regular season match-up in 2005 and, due to World War I, this remains the only World Series played entirely in September.
In 1971 – Carole King is at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart for the 13th of 15 consecutive weeks with Tapestry. The 15 consecutive weeks at #1 established a record for an album by a female solo act that still stands and Tapestry was Billboard’s 2nd-biggest album of both 1971 and 1972, and its 22nd biggest of 1973. The album produced two chart singles including the #1 It’s Too Late/I Feel the Earth Move and won Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Answer To The Last Trivia Question
Knowledge is power.
The major league record for the fewest stolen bases in a season by a league leader is 15, done twice, by Dom DiMaggio of the Boston Red Sox in 1950 and by Trevor Story of the Colorado Rockies in 2020.
