Alrighty, it wasn’t a proper Level II cleaning, but the floor was vacuumed, so the cat can start in on adding new clumps of hair to the floor…And everywhere else…She’s really shedding a lot.
Weights and cardio were good, and so was the soak at the gym this morning…It felt like Friday, too, with some modest face time with both Jackie and Madam Public Health Director, both of whom were in for the rowing/TRX class…the Friday Biddies were in the hot tub, too, and there was a Sunday Yapper sighting and an older woman who somewhat resembled the Sunday Yapper.
This is bad, because the only thing worse than a guy looking like the Sunday Yapper is a chick looking like the Sunday Yapper…Actually, she’s a somebody here in town, the announcer who reads news from the paper on some local radio stations and he daughter is running for the state house.
We got some watering done, too, starting right after we woke up (see Sleep Log below) so it could be done in the dark and most of the water wouldn’t evaporate in the heat…Recall we did this last week and why we didn’t have the brains to have been doing this for the past three years is beyond me…Despite our new fertilizing regimen, the grass has taken a beating lately but maybe this will help it end strong.
The big news is there was a $750 check from the state in the mail today…I am not making that up…Us voters passed some amendment years ago that sets limits on how much revenue the state can take in, or maybe it limits how much it can spend, and when there’s a surplus it’s returned to us, god bless the state.
What do with it???…Neither rich nor broke, we don’t have any pressing need for $750…We could pay down some credit card debt or we could blow it…We decided to blow part of it and put the rest to good use.
The part we blew went to a pinky ring, $195, we are not making that up…We’ve had our eye on it for a couple of weeks and this seemed like a sign to go get it…By chance, our ring sizer came in the mail today, too, a handy deal that is similar to a tie wrap where you wrap it around your finger and there are markings for various ring sizes, from one to 19…My pinkies are 11.5, so I ordered that…It’s pretty sharp, black ceramic or some sort with an oak whiskey barrel wood center and, of all things, a guitar string going around it in the center…We got a deal, too: a 15% off code PLUS a bonus silicone ring at no charge.
We were going to use the remainder for our flood insurance, because that renewal was in the mail, too, but the premium was too much, so we put it on a card we use once a year for flood insurance…We copped an attitude and customized the coverage, too…Online we were given three options, renew at the old coverage levels for $590, a level increased for inflation for $20 more, and the max coverage FEMA will allow, but there wasn’t an amount for this one, merely an invitation to call for further information.
So, curious, we did…On your new landline, too, just the second call ever on it and the first we’ve made (recall Jeffrey called us last month) and this is exactly why we got it: cell service in our small town blows and while my time’s not all that valuable – especially on a day off – we don’t need to spend 20 minutes on hold stretched out like a contortionist.
The nice girl who helped me said the maximum coverage, 250K, cost $679…250 sounded like a bit of overkill, but on the other hand, the old policy was too low and we thought the inflation-adjusted amount was too low, too, and she said we could customize and we settled on 200K, plus 150K for contents, for $658, all figures ol’ Sparrow is pleased with, tho why we’re customizing flood insurance in the mountains in a drought may always be a Mystery of the Ages.
The big news – and it’s HUGE – is that there is a new restaurant going into where the old diner used to be…I AM NOT MAKING THAT UP!!!
We were driving to the town hall to pay the utility bill ($134.26 but you got to water grass) and we noticed what looked like one of those PUBLIC NOTICE signs on the front door…So after paying the bill we turn around to check it out and BOOM we were right: some people – probably saints – have applied for a liquor license and the matter will be taken up at a town council meeting later this month and we’re thinking of going just to make sure the application is approved…There was also a Help Wanted sign, too, and some research back at The Shire showed these are the same folks that own a pizza joint in that rathole small town south of here.
Hum-baby, this was great news…They appear to be mostly a pizza place, but they also have burgers and brewskies and some pics showed they appear to be able to construct a pretty good pizza…No word on the opening date, yet, but we have a long history of being patient for restaurants opening here, and the other restaurant is open, too, so there’s no rush.
Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 1830 Wednesday until 0030 Thursday…6.0 hours for the nite and a not-too-bad 30.4 hours for the week.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
