A ranking of some things.
1. Juneteenth – SB5 pollsters don’t want to rain on anyone’s abolition parade, but Juneteenth does not mark the end of slavery in America, merely the day there were sufficient federal troops in Texas to make state enforce Emancipation Proclamation, passed 18 months earlier…Slavery would still be legal in Kentucky and Delaware until passage of 13th Amendment in December 1865.
2. Julian Assange– After years of trying, US finally gets UK to extradite WikiLeaks founder for having nerve to publish documents on US Army conduct in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as US diplomatic cables…Don’t expect Assange, an Australian, to arrive at an execution chamber near you anytime soon, though, as decision is expected to be appealed
3. Donald Trump – Still the 3-hole staple…Still a liar…Still a sexual predator…Collected $250 million for defense fund that never existed…Still believes moon is part of Mars and that Revolution won by securing of British airports, stunning ignorance for anyone over twelve…Still the instigator of the January 6 insurrection… Still finding far-right of GOP willing customers for his snake oil…Still with blood on his hands for incompetent COVID-19 response…Still heralded by supporters…America deserves better, but we’re not demanding better right now.
4. US Senate Gun Control Deal – A hundred years from now people will look back at this era of America and wonder why we stood by and let people get slaughtered for decades without doing anything…Though actual bill hasn’t been written yet, SB5 pollsters “strongly suspect” bill will do nothing to prohibit possessing weapons Americans have no daily use for nor do anything about violent American government that produces violent American citizens.
5. Lauren Boebert– Wizard Colorado GOP representative – who is SB5 pollster’s congresswoman – introduces bill to classify drug fentanyl as weapon of mass destruction (WMD)…As long as we’re all losing our minds, can we get mock sports drafts, FOX primetime lineup, classified as WMDs, too???

…we are pleased to report the cat has adjusted seamlessly to her new can: there have been no protest crappings or whizzings around the house…Not that we were expecting any…The new box is the exact same style as the old one – tho the color was changed from blue to tan – and is in the exact same place, and the brand of litter wasn’t changed so trouble wasn’t expected, but you never know when a cat is going to get finicky on you.

History’s long march.
In 2012 – Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, requests asylum at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London to avoid extradition to the US following the release of classified documents concerning civilian killings by the US Army. Ecuador would later rescind Assange’s asylum and he was arrested by British police in April 2019. After some wrangling, Assange’s extradition to the US was approved this past Friday, though this is expected to be appealed.
In 1914 – Harry Vardon of Jersey becomes the first golfer to win six British Opens with a final round 78 to beat Englishman J.H. Taylor by three strokes at the Prestwick Gold Club in Scotland. It was the final British Open win for Vardon, and his record for British Open victories still stands. Vardon’s other major victory was in the 1900 US Open and he finished his career with 49 professional wins. It was the 23rd of 24 British Opens hosted by Prestwick, including the first twelve.
In 1982 – Conway Twitty is at #1 on Billboard’s country chart – then known as the Hot Country Singles chart – for the first of two consecutive weeks with Slow Hand. It was the 29th of 35 #1 country songs for Twitty and the song also went #6 country in Canada. The year before the Pointer Sisters had peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 and at #7 on Billboard’s soul chart with the song, making Slow Hand one of the few to hit on all three major Billboard singles charts.
