The Sunday Bottom 5
A ranking of some things.
1. President Joe Biden – SB5 pollsters “pretty sure” president is doing what he can, but good gravy, with America’s deep social divides and everybody circling their own wagons, there is no feeling that it is good to be an American right now.
2. Russian/Ukrainian War – US and others get credit for getting about as tough with Putin as you can without getting him to press the nuke button, but it doesn’t appear anyone – certainly not the Russians – has an exit strategy here…They will probably be there for a long time while History will probably regard this as merely another European war in millennia load with them.
3. Donald Trump – The 3-hole staple as well as a liar, sexual predator, ignoramus, and insurrectionist… Instead of being banished for incompetent COVID response, Jan 6 insurrection, admitting to grabbing women by the pussy, Trump continues to be frontrunner for 2024 GOP presidential nomination instead of being banished in shame as any other twice-impeached, ignorant, selfish blatherskite of a former president should be.
4. NCAA College Sports– With Ohio State football coach announcing team will need $13 million in NIL money to keep squad intact, the inmates are almost running the asylum now, because do you really think the boosters ponying up this money are going to quietly sit back on their wallets and not end up running the program?
5. Uvalde Shooting – School district police remain incommunicado as recent reports show commander didn’t have a radio as the tragedy unfolded, leading to officers standing outside with thumbs up asses as kids were shot to death…This despite the fact that two-way radios have been standard police issue for generations.

So we dove in on recounting the dimes and BOOM, ol’ Sparrow had screwed that up, miscounting eight dimes, something would be tuff even for Stevie Wonder…

History’s long march.
In 1851 – Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin appears in print for the first time, with the first of a 40-week serialization in the abolitionist newspaper The National Era. The book would be published the following year and had a profound effect on attitudes towards slavery. Uncle Tom’s Cabin was the biggest selling novel of the 19th-century and the second biggest- selling book after the Bible.
In 1981 – Nolan Ryan of the Houston Astros establishes a new major league record for most walks in a career in a 3-0 win over the New York Mets. Ryan issued two walks in a complete-game victory, giving him 1,777 breaking the record of 1,775 established by Early Wynn from 1939-63. Ryan retired in 1993 with 2,795 walks, a record that still stands. Ryan led the major leagues in walks eight times in his career, also a major league record.
In 1971 – The Rolling Stones are #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the second and final consecutive week with Brown Sugar. It was the twelfth of 23 Top 10 hits for the group and their fifth of eight #1 songs. Brown Sugar also went to #1 in Holland, Canada, and Switzerland, and peaked at #2 in Great Britain. The song was from the album Sticky Fingers, which was then in its third of four consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.
I also have in my mind that seemingly wealthy, but most terribly impoverished class of all, who have accumulated dross, but know not how to use it, or get rid of it, and thus have forged their own golden or silver fetters.
