The district attorney phoned, too, advising that the guy who went banshee on me at the hotel was making a court appearance Wednesday…It was a voicemail, so I wasn’t able to ask if he was going to make a plea or what and wasn’t interested enuff to call back and ask.

History’s long march.
In 1214 – An English invasion force led by King John lands in western France in an attempt to reclaim Normandy. John’s army, however, was repulsed, a peace treaty signed and John returned home in October. King John had domestic problems, too, as a group of rebelling land barons had occupied London, where negotiations with rebel leaders resulted in the Magna Carta in June 1215. Though influential US governing documents, the agreement was never really followed by either side and led to the First Barons War later in 1215.
In 1932 – Eddie Egan of the United States becomes the first athlete to win gold medals in different sports at the Summer and Winter Olympics when he wins the gold medal in the four-man bobsled at the Lake Placid Winter Games. In 1920 Egan had won a gold medal in the light-heavyweight boxing and his feat has not been duplicated. Gillis Grafstrom of Sweden has also won gold medals at both Winter and Summer Olympics, all in figure skating.
In 1975 – Linda Ronstadt is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the only week with You’re No Good. It was the third Top 40 hit for Ronstadt, her first of nine Top 10 hits, remains her only #1 song and Ronstadt’s album Heart Like a Wheel was also in its only week at #1 on Billboard’s album chart. The B side of the single, I Can’t Help It with Emmylou Harris, peaked at #2 on Billboard’s country chart; in 1963 a version of You’re No Good by Betty Everett peaked at #51 on the Hot 100.
