The Diary of a Nobody – The cat goes outside to play. It doesn’t last long. Today’s Diary.
The big news is the cat snuck out…I had just come in to get the car keys so I could drive the store and neglected to shut the door and the screen door didn’t close all the way so she slipped out…She came right back in, tho it’s not clear if she did this at daddy’s command or because it was colder outside than inside…

History’s long march.
In 1991 – The flag of the Soviet Union ceases flying over the Kremlin in Moscow, replaced by the Russian flag. Earlier in the day, Mikhail Gorbachev resigned as Soviet president and signed over control of the Soviet nuclear arsenal to Russian President Boris Yelstin. The formality of breaking up the Soviet Union would conclude the following day when its highest legislative body, the Supreme Soviet, votes both itself and the country out of existence.
In 1995 – Emmit Smith of the Dallas Cowboys establishes a new NFL record for most touchdowns in a season in a 37-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Smith had one touchdown, giving him 25 for the season – all rushing – to break the record of 24 established by John Riggins of the Washington Redskins in 1983. The record was broken in 2000 by Marshall Faulk (26) and is now held by LaDainian Tomlinson, who had 31 in 2006.
Today – Mariah Carey is at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the sixth non-consecutive week with All I Want For Christmas Is You. The song had previously gone to #1 in both 2019 and 2020 and marks the first time a song has gone to #1 on the Hot 100 in three separate chart runs, breaking a tie Carey had held with Chubby Checker, who went to #1 twice with The Twist. The song first charted in January 2000, peaking at #83, and to date has spent 49 weeks on the Hot 100. Carey has had 19 #1 songs, one less than the all-time Hot 100 record 20 set by the Beatles.
