The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow tells his unfunny story about his fence being torn down. Today’s Diary.

Then she asked if the weed store was a good neighbor and I said sure and trotted my usual story about them inadvertently tearing my fence down, which I’m beginning to suspect may not be as hilarious as I think it is…

History’s long march.

In 1814 – Representatives of Great Britain and the United States sign the Treaty of Ghent in what is now Belgium, ending the War of 1812. The British parliament approved the treaty on December 30 and the treaty took effect in February 1815 after being ratified by the US Senate. The result of the war is generally considered to have been a draw, despite British forces occupying the US capital of Washington, D.C., which at the time was not considered to be that important a city.

In 1982 – The Chaminade Silverswords of Hawaii, then a member of the small college National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) defeat the top-ranked Virginia Cavaliers 77-72 in Honolulu, in what is sometimes considered one the biggest upsets in American sports history. The Cavaliers were led by Ralph Sampson and were making a stop on their way home from playing two games in Japan. Chaminade would end the season losing in the national semifinals of the NAIA tournament while Virginia lost in the West Regional finals of the NCAA tournament. Chaminade is now an NCAA Division II member.

In 1966 – The New Vaudeville Band is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the third and final non-consecutive week with Winchester Catherdral. The song also peaked at #4 in their native Great Britain, was Billboard’s 18th-biggest song of the year and won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Rock & Roll Recording. It was the first chart single for the group and only a #72 followup prevented them from being an ultimate one-hit-wonder: an act whose only chart single goes to #1.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

I had noticed that both in the very poor and very rich extremes of society the mad were often allowed to mingle freely.

Answer To The Last Trivia Question
Knowledge is power.

The NHL record for most goals in a period is 4, done many times. Joe Malone is the only player to do it more once, doing it three times from 1918-21 with three different teams.
