The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow declines to take a check. Today’s Diary.
He came in and he looked and acted flighty, too, and it wasn’t a shocker when his debit card was declined…He didn’t have another one and he asked if we took cash or checks and I said yes to cash, no to a check, which is not only hotel policy, but a sensible one when a debit card is declined…
The Bottom Ten/NFL Week 9 – Detroit is (still) firmly in command in the race for the most coveted trophy in sports, The Dan Henning Trophy.
Lions 66th NFL team to start season 0-7…
B-10 pollsters “pretty sure” Texans first NFL team to score zero (0), three (3) and five (5) points during six (6)-game losing skid in “like, a really long time and stuff”…

The long march to today.
In 939 – Athelstan, regarded by History, as the first king of England dies at Glouster in southwest England. Athelstan had succeeded his father King Edward the Elder, as king of the Anglo-Saxons in 924 and had become king of all England in 927 after conquering York. A lifelong bachelor, Athelstan was succeeded by his half-brother Edmund I. During his reign, Athelstan was known for his concern over crime and for marrying off sisters to other European monarchs.
In 1963 – Gordie Howe of the Detroit Red Wings ties the NHL record for most goals in a career in a 6-4 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. Howe’s 3rd-period goal was the 544th of his career to tie the record established by Maurice Richard of the Canadiens from 1942-60. Howe would break the mark on November 10 and would retire for good after the 1980 season with 801 goals. The record is now held by Wayne Gretzky, who had 894 goals from 1978-99.
In 1979 – Herb Alpert is at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the second and final consecutive week with Rise. It was the second #1 hit for Alpert (This Guy’s In Love With You, four weeks, 1968) and Alpert remains the only person in Hot 100 history to hit #1 with both vocal and instrumental songs. The song also peaked at #13 in Great Britain, at #4 on Billboard’s soul chart and due to when it charted was Billboard’s 80th biggest song of 1979 and its 54th biggest of 1980.
Some Philosophy Crap
