Writing worth reading. Usually.

The Diary of a Nobody – Veterans service officer (VSO) training concludes with a test. Today’s Diary.

There was a fly in the ointment here, tho, because it was pointed out that one of the questions actually had zero correct answers, which was pretty funny, but you couldn’t submit the online test with a question unanswered, I put B down because that was the original answer James P gave.

On This Date
The long march to today.

In 1789 – Twelve amendments to the US Constitution are passed by the First United States Congress, to be sent to the several states for ratification. Ten of the amendments would be ratified on December 15, 1791, and would become the Bill of Rights. One amendment – concerning Congressional salaries – was ratified in 1992 and became the 27th Amendment and another – concerning Congressional apportionment – had no expiration date and is still pending.

In 1990 – The New York Yankees tie the major league record for most consecutive hits with nobody out at the start of a game in a 15-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees got a home run, six singles and another home run to tie the record done four times previously and three times since, most recently by the Minnesota Twins in 2011. The Yankees would finish the inning with eight hits and scored eight runs.

In 1982 – Michael Martin Murphy is at #1 on Billboard’s country chart – then known as the Hot Country Singles chart – for the only week with What’s Forever For. It was the first of twelve Top 10 country hits for Murphy and his first of two #1 songs. The song also went #1 country in Canada, peaked at #19 on the Hot 100 and was Billboard’s third-biggest country song of the year. Murphy’s biggest hit on the Hot 100 was Wildfire, which went to #3 in 1975.
