Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…
Monday, January 11
Here are the latest reward club signup standings:
Assistant Front Desk Manager Q: 7
Amy: 7
Nicole: 6
Tammy: 2.
Everyone else, including ol’ Sparrow, is pitching a shutout and I know all of you noticed the shocker in the runner-up spot: Nicole with 6!!!
I’ve only seen her once and others have stopped talking about her as if she were created from one of Adam’s ribs, but for the new girl to be right up there in reward club sign-ups shows she is hell-bent to go places in the front desk racket (FDR).
Still Virus Era slow at the hotel…Occupancy is down almost two-thirds from last January when thru the same date we’d been 92% full and far this month we’ve only rented 35% of available rooms…Still tho, rates aren’t completely in the tank and we are doing much better than we were immediately after lockdown hit last March.
The big news at the front desk is one of the paper clip holders only has the medium-sized clips in it now…Recall a couple-three weeks ago some wizard – not thought to be Nicole – started putting small paper clips in with the medium-sized one, which was a pain in the neck because when I pour out paper clips when I’m preparing key packets/registration cards for the day’s arrivals I don’t need a bunch of small paper clips that won’t be used and need to be returned to the holder…It wasn’t that big of a problem for me to actually go and do anything about, but I’ll admit it is good for morale to only have medium-sized clips in there again.
About mid-morning at the Veterans Service Office (VSO) today I get an email notifying me of a phone message, which I thought interesting because the phone hadn’t rung all morning and how I could get a message without an accompanying phone call wasn’t immediately apparent.
I listen and it’s a woman advising that some card of hers only had $15 put on it and that she is no longer on unemployment…Well, of course, ol’ Sparrow was grateful for this information – it went immediately into my general fund of knowledge- but it had nothing to do with me…Some research showed that the email was actually forwarded by Judy in the Human Services office, so I emailed her back and said this wasn’t for me and then a bit later Jenn, my nominal supervisor, emailed everyone advising us to disregard the message.
Later, I got an actual phone call, another one from a vet wondering about the VA and the COVID vaccine…I asked if he was enrolled in VA health care he said yeah, so it was a simple matter to tell him the VA would contact him when it was his turn to be inoculated.
One of the benefits of winter is you can go shopping and leave frozen stuff in your car while you’re at work…Between the hotel and the VSO, I went to both the retailer and the supermarket for chicken salad, bread, frozen peas and vegetables and in the summer you have to take that up to the refrigerator in the Building Department (or go shopping after work, but it’s busy then) but not when it’s 17 degrees out…You can leave everything in the car.
Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 1430 Monday until 2130 Monday…7.0 hours for the day and 13.0 hours for the week, the first a wonderful total and the second a solid one.
Boy, it was a great rest, too…I only woke up once to use the can and around 1930 I woke up after a dream and noted the time before executing a patented Sparrow Roll Over (SRO) and knocking out the last two hours and I was actually up a few minutes before the alarm feeling great, which should lay a good foundation for Tuesday’s workout.
The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
